My month free of social networking..

So for the month of February, I decided to go without social networking; facebook, tumblr, and instagram. I know for most this sounds quite ridiculous and silly, but I wanted to see what my life would be like without constant contact, constant distractions, and all the drama involved with social networking.

At first, this task was quite difficult, especially when everyone was always making comments like "did you see what so and so posted on facebook??" but after the first week or so I began to appreciate the quiet and the lesser amount of distraction. I realized how much I DON'T do because I am so involved in what everyone ELSE is doing, and everyone else's drama.

Needless to say, by each day of no social networking, my to do list grew and grew and for ONCE I have done every single thing on my that list.

So what have I gotten done this month you ask?

We began the month with celebrating my mothers birthday, my sister and I made her a lovely dinner and cake and we all hung out and had a nice day to celebrate how great my mom is.

Then my sister and I (I assume we both did this because we were wanting to distract ourselves from the sadness of my eldest sister having to move back to California) decided to switch living spaces. My boyfriend and I had been living in the apartment on my moms property for the last 2 years and decided to make a change since my moms chickens and roosters constantly kept us up through the night. So for a week we spend our time moving our stuff into my sisters old room and her stuff into our old apartment. My sisters room was very.. lived in, to say the least, from all the uses of this room having not been originally designed as a bedroom but more so a bonus room. So we had to put our special touches on it.

Let me first say EVERYTHING we have done to this room has been COMPLETELY DIY! We began the transformation by fixing all the holes in the walls, repainting the room to make it brighter and bigger, and also fresher. It is a large room thats top half of the walls slant into the ceiling, two windows on opposite walls, and a long, long windowless hallway to the bathroom. You can imagine how little natural light we were working with. We painted the room a 'Designer white' to open it up and be able to decorate it as we saw fit.

Since this room was originally just a bonus room and not designed as a bedroom we had to build ourselves a closet (by we I really mean "I" or "me") I got all the supplies to build the closet from home depot and it was actually rather simple. I built shelving up the walls with hanging bars for our hanging clothes. The closet had to be built on the wall with the large window since it was the tallest and biggest wall, I didn't cover the window at all and I made it able to still be seen. We covered the closet by hanging a beautiful curtain rod from the ceiling about 6 inches in front of the shelves. The curtains are not fixed so we only shut them enough so the clothes aren't seen but the window can still be seen. Even if the curtains were closed, natural light can still come in since the curtains are rather sheer.

We then hung all of our decor and wall art throughout to give it our special touches. There are slanted ceilings/wall space and I don't like wasting wall space so as you will see in the pictures I will post later on we haven't wasted a bit of wall space. If you want to know how to hang heavy wall art on a slanted wall FEEL FREE TO ASK ME and I will teach you my ways! If you want to know how to DIY anything and everything just ask... I can do anything from building closets, to fixing plumping, to building headboards, to fixing wiring and cabling or anything you can really think of.

We've began to rip out the horrible, dirty carpet so we can replace it with the same hardwood as my mother has downstairs. (either hardwood or tile, we can't decide yet)

I will give you a tid bit on a headboard I built, it's incredibly easy and I will be posting a blog just on this and how to build it. I saw a headboard similar to this in a furniture store about a month ago and wasn't willing to spend $1200 dollars on it. So I drew up a design and built it myself for only $200.

The room is ALMOST finished!

What else have I done this month?

I have sewn all of my old clothes because I recently lost just under 50 lbs, and had hardly any clothes that fit.

I took my boyfriend to the airport for his business trip to Australia :(.

My sister and I have been looking at all the antique stores and thrift stores for old furniture so we can REVAMP it.

Thanks to the recent tornado damage we have had several trees down, so my sister and I have thought of fun ways to use the wood. We cut up a bunch of disks so we could cut them in half and use them as beautiful natural wood shelves. We cut a large stump out of some of it so my sister could sand it down and turn it into a side table. I am going to use some of the disks and make wall art when I get a moment. Also, I am going to use the wood logs and hollow out the center, fill them with a wick and wax and turn them into beautiful candles! I will show you later on when I get the chance to actually build those!

So far this is all I can think of. If I can think of more I will let you know and do some edits!

Have a wonderful day!
